Best AI coding assistants, compared honestly

This is the honest version: four of the six tools most developers actually use pay no affiliate commission at all. Cursor discontinued its referral program in July 2026 and GitHub Copilot has never had one. If you are building a site purely for revenue, this is the worst category on the internet — and also the one where readers can smell a fake recommendation fastest.

Disclosure: only Tabnine and CodeRabbit pay us. Copilot, Cursor, Windsurf and Claude are included because a comparison without them would be worthless.

No affiliate program — we earn nothing

Read this before you build a page in this niche: Cursor's referral program (account credits, not cash) closed on 23 July 2026, and GitHub Copilot has no public affiliate program. Any site quoting “20% recurring” for Cursor is repeating a fabricated aggregator figure. The two real programs are Tabnine (20% recurring) and CodeRabbit ($30/lead).
In detail

The three that matter

Value, capability, and the enterprise niche nobody else serves.

GitHub Copilot — best value

Free · Pro $10 · Pro+ $39 · Business $19/seat

Winner

What works

  • Cheapest plan that is genuinely useful all day.
  • Works in every editor most teams already use.
  • Code review and the GitHub agent are included, not upsold.

What doesn't

  • Agent mode is weaker than Cursor on sweeping changes.
  • Premium request limits interrupt heavy sessions.
  • No affiliate program, so review sites undersell it.

Verdict: buy this first. If it is not enough, you will know exactly which capability you are missing — usually multi-file agency, which is Cursor's job.

Visit Copilot

Cursor — best agent

Hobby free · Pro $20/mo · usage-based extras

Best agent

What works

  • Codebase-wide context that actually finds the right files.
  • Multi-file edits and refactors complete more often than rivals.
  • Tab completion predicts the next edit, not just the next token.

What doesn't

  • Usage-based pricing can surprise a heavy team.
  • No cash affiliate program since July 2026.
  • Slower than Copilot on very large repositories.

Verdict: the best tool in the category and the worst one to monetise. Recommend it honestly and you will earn trust, not commission.

Visit Cursor

Tabnine — best for enterprise

$39/user/mo Code Assistant · $59 Agentic · annual

Enterprise

What works

  • The only mainstream option that runs air-gapped.
  • Zero code retention and compliance-friendly deployment.
  • 20% recurring for 12 months, 60-day cookie.

What doesn't

  • Model quality is behind Copilot and Cursor.
  • No self-serve pricing; every deal goes through sales.
  • $39 per seat is hard to justify outside regulated industries.

Verdict: sells to a compliance officer, not a developer. If your audience is fintech, health or government engineering, this is the highest-intent affiliate link you can place.

Budget

What a team actually costs

Per-seat pricing makes small differences add up. Compare the annual figure, not the monthly one.

Tabnine is annual-only, so treat its monthly figure as the amortised contract price. Copilot Business is $19/seat rather than $10.

Monthly total—
Total at monthly billing—
With annual billing (~20% off)—

Excludes usage overages, which are the real budget risk on agentic plans.

FAQ

Coding tools, answered

Does Cursor have an affiliate program?

No cash affiliate program. It ran a referral scheme that gave account credits, and that closed on 23 July 2026. Third-party directories still list a “20% recurring” Cursor program; those numbers are not from Cursor. Treat them as fabricated.

Does GitHub Copilot have an affiliate program?

No. Microsoft and GitHub have not built an affiliate channel for Copilot. Any site claiming a Copilot commission is either confused or lying. Link to it for credibility, not revenue.

Can I use Copilot and Cursor together?

You can, but it is usually wasted money. Pick one editor. The exception is CodeRabbit: it reviews pull requests, so it complements either assistant without duplicating it.

Which coding affiliate program is actually open?

Tabnine pays 20% recurring for 12 months with a 60-day cookie. CodeRabbit pays $30 per qualified lead through Dub Partners. That is the entire reliable list in this category as of November 2026.

Is AI-generated code a licensing risk?

It can be. Copilot, Tabnine and Cursor all publish policies on code provenance and filtering, and enterprises often require indemnification. Tabnine's air-gapped deployment exists precisely because some organisations cannot accept the risk. Read the policy before shipping generated code into a regulated product.
